ALEXANDRIA, Va. — High tides will bring familiar flooding to Old Town Alexandria Friday and Saturday.

The National Weather Service says this flooding is not from the inches of rain the region has seen over the past few days; rather, by a weather system pushing water up and into the Potomac River.

Meteorologist Howard Silverman described the flooding as “at least minor,” with water rising a couple of feet above normal.

High tides in Alexandria are at 8:14 a.m. and 8:35 p.m. Friday, and at 8:56 a.m. and 9:14 p.m. Saturday.

Flooding is expected at each high tide both days, Silverman said.
