Arlington stop-arm cameras live again on Monday

WASHINGTON 鈥斅燗rlington County school buses will again be catching stop-arm violators with onboard cameras starting Monday, Oct. 3.

The program was started last year, but Arlington Public Schools says it was suspended when an opinion from the Virginia Attorney General said the violations could not be mailed.

However, the Virginia General Assembly passed a measure allowing use of the cameras, with the law taking effect July 1, 2016. The Virginia Supreme Court adopted a new fine schedule that listed passing a stopped school bus to the list of pre-payable offenses in September.

Drivers caught passing a stopped school bus flashing red lights with its stop arm out will be subject to a $250 fine.
