Surging popularity of ‘Heated Rivalry’ turns into big business in DC /local/2026/02/surging-popularity-heated-rivalry-turns-into-big-business-dc/ Tue, 10 Feb 2026 10:32:19 +0000 /?p=28880468 With the number of hockey jerseys in the room, you could鈥檝e expected a Washington Capitals game on the big screen.

But on a closer look, you鈥檇 see the name 鈥淩ozanov鈥 on the backs of the jerseys and the hit new TV show 鈥淗eated Rivalry鈥 projected on the wall.

The crowd was jam packed on Spark Social鈥檚 back patio, an LGBTQ+ bar in the U Street Corridor in D.C. Many fans sat on the ground and even the doorsteps after the chairs quickly filled up.

鈥淲e are obsessed with this show,鈥 said Ambar, an attendee. 鈥淚t鈥檚 a beautiful love story.鈥

鈥淗eated Rivalry鈥 follows the fictional story of two professional hockey players, Ilya Rozanov and Shane Hollander, who are enemies in the public eye but lovers behind closed doors. The show is an adaptation of the seven-book 鈥淕ame Changers鈥 series by Rachel Reid. The Crave production is being celebrated for its positive representation of the LGBTQ+ community within the world of sports, particularly hockey.

鈥淲e all crave queer representation in the media and, at that, good queer representation in the media,鈥 said Lainee, who went to the watch party at Spark Social.

After premiering Nov. 28, 鈥淗eated Rivalry鈥 took social media by storm, becoming a viral sensation. Now, D.C. businesses are jumping on the craze by hosting watch parties, dance nights and book clubs.

鈥淲e really wanted to capitalize on this moment,鈥 said Jen Bell, co-head of the booking department at the 9:30 Club.

The 9:30 Club is hosting three 鈥淗eated Rivalry鈥 dance parties in February, all of which are sold out. Altogether, that鈥檚 3,600 tickets.

鈥淚 haven’t seen anything like this in a while,鈥 Bell said.

The 9:30 Club wanted to book more dance parties but couldn鈥檛 fit it in their schedule, according to Bell. But their sister venue, The Anthem, had an open date in March 6.

鈥淭hat’s 6,000 tickets, and that for a dance party is really, truly insane,鈥 Bell said.

At the time of our interview, there were only 200 tickets left for

As You Are, a staple bar for the D.C. LGBTQ+ community, hosted a 鈥淗eated Rivalry鈥 dance party Jan 24. Just like Spark Social and the 9:30 Club, it was a blowout, with a line around the block.

As You Are even had a special drink menu inspired by the show.

鈥淚 wanted to curate to the characters,鈥 said Nic, the creator behind the drinks. 鈥淔or Shane鈥檚 drink, I did a ginger ale drink that could also be a mocktail because he doesn’t drink in the show sometimes.鈥

Another notable favorite on the menu was a French 75 called 鈥淏ubble Butt.鈥

As You Are has seen a decrease in customers since the federal law enforcement surge in August, so much so that the bar started a GoFundMe to help them afford operational costs.

Gigi Balderas, the bar鈥檚 social media manager, said their 鈥淗eated Rivalry鈥 event has given As You Are a newfound sense of momentum.

鈥淚t felt kind of like a light at the end of the tunnel,鈥 Balderas said.

It鈥檚 not just dance nights and watch parties that are selling out. It鈥檚 the books themselves, too.

Little District Books, an entirely LGBTQ+ bookstore in Capitol Hill, told 小萝莉影视 that in November, none of books in the “Game Changers” series were a store bestseller. That all changed after the show premiered on HBO Max.

In less than a month, at the end of year, three of the books in the series were in their top 10 most sold books of 2025.

The soaring popularity of the TV show and book series also spawned a new monthly event at Little District Books called the 鈥淐ottage Book Club.鈥

鈥淚 love Rachel Reid books,鈥 said Doro, a book club attendee. 鈥淭he series adaptation for TV is amazing.鈥

Doro, a parent, said she doesn鈥檛 get a lot of 鈥渕e time.鈥 But she made sure to put the Cottage Book Club on her calendar.

鈥淚鈥檓 here to join like-minded people,鈥 she said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 so insanely cool to have so many people coming together for an event and share joy.鈥

So, what has everyone hooked? Why has 鈥淗eated Rivalry鈥 taken over social life in D.C.?

鈥淚n a very divided world, it’s something that people are rallying together on,鈥 Bell said. 鈥淚t gives so much hope, it gives escapism.鈥

Jeff Bock, who attended the Spark Social watch party, said this show couldn鈥檛 have come at a better time.

鈥淲e are looking for some joy right now,鈥 Bock said. 鈥淎fter a terrible 2025, it was a tough year, and here comes in this amazing experience that is pulling people together.鈥

At the watch party, many were rewatching the show for a second or even third time. It鈥檚 not just the show they are gravitating too, but the sense of community it has created.

鈥淚 cannot explain the amount of excitement I first had when watching this show,鈥 said watch party viewer Nia. 鈥淚t鈥檚 nice to be in a room with people who also feel that same giddiness.鈥

Maryland Transportation Authority set to vote on plan to construct new Bay Bridge /maryland/2025/12/maryland-transportation-authority-set-to-vote-on-plan-to-construct-new-bay-bridge/ Tue, 16 Dec 2025 21:22:02 +0000 /?p=28707437 The Maryland Transportation Authority will vote Thursday on a recommendation for new, four-lane Chesapeake Bay Bridge spans.

There were seven alternative bridge plans proposed, researched and presented to the public by the Chesapeake Bay Crossing Study. Local, state and federal officials are now proposing that the MDTA board move forward with “Alternative C,” according to a Tuesday .

Alternative C includes the construction of two new, four-lane bridges and the removal of the existing Bay Bridge spans. This would nearly double the amount of traffic currently allowed on the bridge.

“Of the build alternatives, it is the most cost-effective, impacts the least amount of natural, socio-economic and cultural resources,” MDTA Executive Director Bruce Gartner said of the plan in a

The new lanes will have full shoulders across the entire bay, which the report said will improve safety and add more “capacity, reliability and mobility” for transportation.

The plan would widen the U.S. Routes 50/301 in certain areas, with four lanes in each direction to accommodate transitions to the new crossing.

“It would enhance safety with full shoulders and wider lanes, bring between $17 to $23 billion into the local economy, and create 61,300 to 75,600 jobs with 76% direct employment of construction workers,” Gartner said.

The MDTA is still evaluating whether a bicycle and pedestrian path should be included.

If Alternative C is accepted, this would be the predicted

  • A new eastbound span would be constructed first, south of the existing road.
  • The new eastbound span would open, leading to the removal of the old eastbound lanes.
  • A new westbound span would be constructed between the two existing bridge spans.
  • The new spans would open, allowing for the removal of the old westbound lanes.

There will be public hearings held on Alternative C in February.

The alternative plans were created by the Bay Crossing Study, which started its research in 2022, when officials decided to move forward with plans for reconstruction. In 2024, the public was presented with .

If Alternative C is accepted, the MDTA will move forward in collaboration with the Federal Highway Administration and other regulatory agencies to strategize on construction designs. The Final Environmental Impact Statement and Record of Decision is expected to be determined in November 2026.

If everything goes according to plan and funding is secured, then the final design is predicted to begin in 2028, and construction of the bridge is anticipated to start in 2032.

‘Free trials should actually be free’: DC, Va., Md. sue Uber alleging manipulative subscription service /local/2025/12/free-trials-should-actually-be-free-dc-va-md-sue-uber-alleging-manipulative-subscription-service/ Tue, 16 Dec 2025 21:10:41 +0000 /?p=28706713 All three attorneys general in the D.C. region are suing Uber, accusing the rideshare app of taking advantage of consumers through its “deceptive” subscription service, Uber One.

Nineteen states, including Virginia, Maryland and D.C., filed a joint lawsuit with the Federal Trade Commission against Uber on Monday. The complaint says Uber didn’t follow through on advertised savings, charged consumers during their free trial periods, and signed up users for Uber One without their consent.

The comes after the FTC sued Uber in April 2025 for its subscription service. This new amended complaint requests penalties for the app’s alleged violation of the Restore Online Shoppers’ Confidence Act, which ensures that consumers fully understand the terms of a subscription service before signing up.

The new coalition allows the 21 states and D.C. to seek restitution for these alleged violations.

The lawsuit says Uber not only charged people for subscriptions that they never signed up for, but didn’t deliver on promised savings supposedly included in the subscription. The FTC said in a that users have reported they didn’t receive $0 delivery fees and $25 in monthly savings, two key discounts Uber One advertises.

Another major complaint is that Uber One allegedly signed up and charged consumers for the subscription service without their knowledge.

D.C. Attorney General Brian Schwalb said these subscription violations are unacceptable, especially given the high cost of living.

鈥淣o one should ever be stuck paying for a subscription they do not want,” Schwab said in a . “We are joining this lawsuit to stop Uber鈥檚 deceptive and illegal conduct and to ensure that the more than 100,000 DC residents who are paying for Uber One subscriptions have an easy way to cancel if they no longer wish to use the service.”

Uber One offers a free trial, which the court filing claimed was breached. Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown said many users were charged for Uber One before their trial ended.

鈥淔ree trials should actually be free 鈥 not traps that lock Marylanders into unwanted monthly charges,” Brown said in a

The lawsuit also says Uber made it extremely difficult to cancel Uber One subscriptions, stating that consumers had to go through 12 actions and seven different screens. Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares said these steps trapped consumers.

“Deceptive enrollment and billing practices have no place in the marketplace,” Miyares said in a .

In addition to D.C, Virginia and Maryland, the other states on the lawsuit are Alabama, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

Virginia Department of Education projects K-12 schools will need $1.2 billion over next two years /virginia/2025/12/virginia-dept-of-ed-projects-k-12-schools-will-need-1-2-billion-over-next-two-years/ Tue, 16 Dec 2025 13:08:53 +0000 /?p=28706181 Virginia鈥檚 recently published enrollment data indicates that state schools will need about $1.2 billion over the next two years, more than was projected just weeks ago amid challenges in funding other key areas.

Enrollment data is the main factor in calculating Standards of Quality costs 鈥 the formula that determines how much state and localities must contribute 鈥 to ensure a high-quality education. The review process of school-related costs is conducted every two years.

The House and Senate estimated the baseline cost to cover schools was at least $844 million, about $356 million more compared to projections by the Virginia Department of Education at a work session last Wednesday.

Levi Goren, director of research and education policy with the Commonwealth Institute for Fiscal Analysis, said some of the bright spots potentially favoring K-12鈥檚 budget is Virginia鈥檚 鈥渟trong鈥 economy, as reported by the governor鈥檚 office, and increased public interest in raising new revenue.

鈥淲e know that the current pie is not enough to meet the needs of our communities in the way that our families deserve, so we need to figure out how we can grow that pie and there鈥檚 a lot of interesting ideas out there in the tax base for doing that,鈥 said Goren.

The institute co-leads a statewide coalition called Fund Our Schools, pushing for 鈥渇ully and fairly鈥 funding public education in the commonwealth.

While enrollment is projected to decline, presumably lowering overall funding needs, the education agency said the cost to fund Virginia鈥檚 schools is driven by several factors. The money will include 6% teacher pay raises legislators approved last year and a larger number of students being identified as needing extra support. Operating expenses including materials, supplies, and training account for 42% of the biennial rebenchmarking costs. Another factor is inflation.

Lawmakers also expect federal funds totaling $45 million to offset costs.

The agency also considered other updates, including the revised local composite index 鈥 which determines what each locality can pay for its respective school 鈥 revised sales tax projections, and revised Virginia Retirement System fringe benefit rates.

鈥淚 think, just understanding that rebenchmarking is the cost to maintain the status quo, 鈥 (it鈥檚) not actually good enough for a lot of our students,鈥 Goren said. 鈥淲e need to also be having a conversation about the investments we can make to improve educational quality in parts of the commonwealth that don鈥檛 have the resources to do it on their own.鈥

VDOE said it was delayed in providing the reports to the state lawmakers because it had not received the daily student attendance from all 132 school divisions, which were due by Sept. 30.

Christina Berta, VDOE chief operations officer, said three school divisions 鈥斅爄n Essex and Northumberland counties and the city of Norton 鈥 have not yet submitted their fiscal year 2025 annual school reports to the agency, which are 鈥渃ritical for the department鈥檚 work in providing complete information for policy and decision makers.鈥

However, she said the three missing reports do not have a direct impact on the agency鈥檚 benchmarking report. Berta said the agency is working with the schools to get their information included for lawmakers.

Gov. Glenn Youngkin will be considering the data ahead of presenting his proposed budget on Wednesday to the House and Senate money committees.

The board did not take any action on the item at its work session. Members will have another review of fall membership information at its Jan. 8 meeting before the start of the General Assembly session, beginning Jan. 14.

DC police chief accused of manipulating crime data in new House Oversight Committee report /dc/2025/12/dc-police-chief-accused-of-manipulating-crime-data-in-house-oversight-committee-report/ Mon, 15 Dec 2025 19:43:49 +0000 /?p=28699968 D.C. Police Chief Pamela Smith has been accused of manipulating crime data to “maintain the appearance of low crime” in a new report released Sunday by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

The interim staff report came from transcribed interviews with the commanders of all seven D.C. patrol districts, as well as one former commander currently placed on suspended leave, .

The report alleges Smith “punished and removed officers for reporting accurate crime numbers and fostered a toxic culture.”

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser said she didn’t see any evidence of that.

“I think they started these inquiries as a crime investigation, and obviously that didn’t pan out, so that’s where they landed,” she said in response to a question referencing the report’s critiques of Smith’s management style.

D.C. Council member Brooke Pinto’s office said that in light of the GOP-led committee’s report, the council will continue to look into the allegations and she will hold a performance oversight hearing of D.C.’s police department in February.

Smith recently announced she is stepping down at the end of the month after two years leading the department.

The committee claimed that during President Donald Trump’s federal takeover of D.C. law enforcement, they received reports of police leadership “deliberately lowering crime statistics.”

In response, the Chair of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, Republican Kentucky Rep. James Comer, launched an investigation in August.

Alleged manipulation of DC’s daily crime report

In the report, commanders said Smith hyper-fixated on D.C.’s daily crime report, a public database, and incentivized them to lower the status of crimes so they wouldn’t be publicly documented.

The D.C. Council created new categories of criminal offenses in 2024 with the passage of the Secure D.C. bill. This anti-crime legislation made what the committee report called, “intermediate offenses,” such as endangerment with a firearm or simple assault.

According to the report, intermediate crimes fall between a serious and minor offense.

The investigation claimed that intermediate offenses are not publicly recorded.

Commanders asserted in the report that Smith abused these new offense categories, often relabeling a crime to fit under an intermediate offense, instead of a serious one.

Commander A (all identities of commanders were hidden and labeled through an alphabetical system) recounted an instance during which one of Smith’s executive assistants’ chiefs ordered them to change the classification of a crime.

“He called about an assault with a dangerous weapon, for a shooting where nobody was hit,” Commander A said in the report. “He said, ‘Well it sounds like you have an endangerment with a firearm.’ And I said, ‘Well, are you asking me or telling me?'”

Commander A claimed that they were instructed to change the classification to endangerment with a firearm, which made the data hidden from the public.

The commanders interviewed in the report, all of which have 16 to 27 years of policing experience, said the department’s focus on crime data was a new standard put in place by Smith.

The documents allege that Smith’s rigorous approval process of crime data reports distracted from investigating and fighting actual crime.

Crime data meetings were ‘an atonement for our sins’

Commanders were required to attend several crime data reporting meetings a week where they claim to have been “humiliated publicly” by Smith and her executive assistant chiefs.

In the documents, commanders described being berated so much so that they left the meetings feeling like they were at fault for crime in their districts.

“I did feel like I did the robberies after I left,” Commander E told investigators. “I literally was, like, I swear I did not commit them.”

At one point, Commander B, claimed that Smith said she would rather a commander, “make something up,” than not have an answer to her questions.

Smith was accused in the report of creating an “echo-chamber” and if officers disagreed with her or seemed disloyal, they were reassigned.

“Commanders frequently feared for their jobs when having to brief Chief Smith on a rise in crime,” the documents said.

Commanders concluded that officers have left the force because of the “toxic” environment Smith created. One commander, in the report, said they were considering leaving the force earlier than expected because of Smith’s leadership.

Local and national leaders’ responses

Mayor Muriel Bowser told 小萝莉影视 she’s grateful to Smith and her commitment to safety.

“The men and women of the Metropolitan Police Department run towards danger every day to reduce homicides, carjackings, armed robberies, sexual assaults and more,” Bowser said. “The precipitous decline in crime in our city is attributable to their hard work and dedication and Chief Smith鈥檚 leadership.”

The report also included a statement from Comer who launched the investigation.

鈥淓very single person who lives, works, or visits the District of Columbia deserves a safe city, yet it鈥檚 now clear the American people were deliberately kept in the dark about the true crime rates in our nation鈥檚 capital,” Comer said. “Her planned resignation at the end of the month should not be seen as a voluntary choice, but as an inevitable consequence that should have occurred much earlier. Chief Smith should resign today.”

Council member Pinto, chair of the Committee on the Judiciary and Public Safety, said she takes the reports seriously.

“Accuracy in reporting crime statistics is critically important for public trust and for assessing the effectiveness of our public safety interventions, and misclassifications 鈥 under or over reporting 鈥 can put the public trust in jeopardy and could undermine strategies we need to drive down crime,” she said.

Smith’s resignation and response

Smith was nominated to the head post in 2023 and was the second woman and first Black woman to serve as chief.

She announced on Dec. 8 that she would be stepping down to spend more time with her family.

“We鈥檝e had some high points, we鈥檝e had some low points, but respectfully, right now, this is a personal decision for myself and for my family,” Smith said.

Shortly after her retirement announcement, questions were raised in light of the House committee’s investigation. However, Smith said the report did not play a role in her decision.

The House Committee on Oversight stated in Sunday’s report that they published the initial findings of their investigation because of Smith’s resignation.

“The Committee is releasing this interim report in light of Chief Smith鈥檚 resignation to add
context to this decision, to protect witnesses from retaliation, and to inform both District
residents and the American public at large,” documents said.

The Department of Justice, according to The Washington Post, has also concluded its investigation into manipulated D.C. crime data and could release its findings as early as Monday.

小萝莉影视 has reached out to D.C. Police for comment.

Frigid weather stretches on with relief in sight for DC area /weather-news/2025/12/wintry-weather-freezes-dc-region-leaving-slick-icy-roads-for-am-commute/ Mon, 15 Dec 2025 15:45:09 +0000 /?p=28701132 It won’t warm up much Monday as a stretch of frigid days lingers in the D.C. area, keeping temperatures below-average for weeks.

Highs are only expected to reach the low 30s Monday afternoon after the day started out with bone-chilling temperatures in the teens.

“Plenty of sunshine to start the week but a very cold Arctic air mass continues over the mid-Atlantic and the northeast,” 7小萝莉影视 First Alert Meteorologist Jordan Evans said.

Wind chills were in the single digits Monday morning, freezing over some leftover snow and leaving some slick spots on roads during the morning commute.

“Anyone spending time outside today will need gloves or mittens and breathing into a scarf or neck gaiter will help keep your heat in,” 小萝莉影视’s Neal Augenstein reported from Fairfax County.

When will the cold stretch end?

It will be dry and cold all day Monday with afternoon high temperatures well below average, in the upper 20s to low 30s. Many neighborhoods will stay below freezing all day long, according to 7小萝莉影视 First Meteorologist Eileen Whelan.

Expect another bitterly cold night Monday with lows in the teens in the suburbs to low 20s downtown, Whelan said. Those temperatures could make for some ice and frost.

Northwest winds will blow through at 10 to 15 mph, and gusts could reach as high as 25 mph.

“We’ll start to see those winds change direction and that’s going to help us out tomorrow with higher temperatures approaching 40 for your Tuesday,” Evans said.

Temperatures will finally climb back above freezing by Tuesday.

While afternoon highs will reach the low to mid 40s, it will remain colder than the average high for this time of December, which is 49 degrees.

On Wednesday, afternoon highs will climb above average for the first time since the day before Thanksgiving, Whelan said. Highs are expected to be in the mid-50s with a light breeze.

On Thursday, temperatures are expected to stay mild with highs in the 50s. Though blustery winds are expected to return as well, bringing gusts up to 20 mph.

Icy start

On the roads, 7小萝莉影视 First Alert Meteorologist Mark Pe帽a recommended paying attention to slippery bridges, overpasses, and exit and entrance ramps Monday morning. Leftover snow, slush and ice from Sunday left those roads slick in some spots.

Pe帽a said many school systems in the D.C. area played the “better safe than sorry,” card Monday and delayed their start times by two hours.

Transportation agencies urged drivers and pedestrians to use extreme caution, especially on secondary roads and sidewalks, where snow and ice may linger.

小萝莉影视’s Neal Augenstein traveled to Fairfax County early Monday morning.

“You’ll want to get out to your icy car a few minutes early and let your defroster and heater do the heavy lifting, because it would take a lot of effort to chip away with your ice scraper,” Augenstein said.

Augenstein said main commuter routes were cleared of any snow, but icy conditions remained on sidewalks and surfaces that were wet from Sunday’s snow.

“That means walking to your car and getting out of a subdivision can be the riskiest part of your commute,” he said.

DC’s Tidal Basin sea wall reconstruction completed months ahead of schedule and millions under budget /dc/2025/12/dcs-tidal-basin-sea-wall-reconstruction-completed-months-ahead-of-schedule-and-millions-under-budget/ Thu, 11 Dec 2025 09:47:51 +0000 /?p=28686665 The first step in protecting D.C.’s Tidal Basin from flooding and aging infrastructure has finished ahead of schedule and under budget, according to the National Park Service.

The now completed reconstruction of the Tidal Basin sea wall is one of the two phases in the project dedicated to strengthening the shoreline around the Jefferson Memorial, the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial and the cherry blossom trees, according to a National Park Service on Wednesday.

The original sea wall was built in the late 1800s and early 1900s. After over a century, the south side wall had settled more than five feet, leaving the famous cherry blossom trees, monuments and walkways victim to frequent flooding.

“We had experienced significant, daily flooding for years around the Tidal Basin,” said Mike Litterst, the chief of communications and spokesperson for the National Park Service

The overall project is expected to finish eight months ahead of schedule and $30 million under budget in May of 2026, officials said in the release. That would be about 20% under budget.

“It is a great example of government efficiency,” Litterst said.

Officials hope this construction will secure the Tidal Basin and the historic sites for another 100 years.

“It was necessary to rebuild the seawall, raise it, anchor the foundations so it would stop sinking and widen the walkways,” Litterst said.

Concrete workers are building new sidewalks and jogging paths to protect the historic site.

Those changes are aimed at improving the infrastructure so that it can handle stronger storms and rising sea-levels.

What’s next

The next phase is to plant over 400 new trees, including almost 270 additional cherry blossom trees.

The south side portion of the Tidal Basin and parts of the West Potomac Park will remain closed through the 2026 National Cherry Blossom Festival but will reopen shortly after when the replanting is completed.

The reconstruction is funded by the and supporting the executive order on

In 2024, the National Park Service removed over 300 trees for the reconstruction, including the famous cherry blossom tree, Stumpy.

Public outcry over the removal of Stumpy led the National Park Service to collect clippings from the tree. The National Arboretum hopes to use those clippings to continue the legacy and lineage of the iconic cherry blossom tree.

But, for all the diehard Stumpy fans out there, it doesn’t look like Stumpy will be a part of the new cherry blossom recruits in the New Year’s replanting.

Litterst told 小萝莉影视 that while he does need to get an update from the arboretum, the cuttings aren’t expected to be ready for the next couple of years.

For the first time since 1978, the medals have a significant redesign with a new creator at the helm.

Tiffany & Co. have funded and reimagined the awards, which will now feature a navy-blue strap holding a gold disc with a sketch of the Kennedy Center building surrounded by rainbow colors. The reverse side will have the name of the honorees and the date of the ceremony.

The center wrote in a that Tiffany & Co. is its “ideal collaborator” for these medals because of the company’s “defining role in American luxury culture for nearly two centuries.”

The new partnership comes after President Donald Trump’s overhaul of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts board, appointing himself as chair, earlier this year.

The Baturin family, owners of The Baumgarten Company, known as 鈥淎merica鈥檚 Rubber Stamp Factory,” had been making the awards for decades.

It was James 鈥淛immy鈥 Baturin who created the first design of the medallions, including the rainbow ribbon strap and gold name plate the awards were known for.

Baturin told 小萝莉影视 earlier this year that the new collaboration is disheartening.

“I could cry over it, but that isn鈥檛 going to do any good,” he said.

The 48th annual Kennedy Center Honors will award George Strait, rock band KISS, Michael Crawford, Gloria Gaynor and Sylvester Stallone on Sunday. The ceremony will air on CBS and stream on Paramount+ on Dec. 23 at 8 p.m.
