RESTON, Va. 鈥斅燙ommutes this fall will聽be affected by the construction of Metro鈥檚 Silver Line extension in Herndon, Virginia.
Work to build a tunnel from the Herndon-Monroe Park and Ride to the planned Herndon Metro station will cause some lane shifts and facility relocations to accommodate the work.
The Kiss-and-Ride area to the north of the bus platform will be moved next week to聽an area across from the garage entrance, . Several bus bays will be moved as well.
Drivers through the area should expect to see construction vehicles in and around the work area, which could slow commutes down as well.
Changes to the parking facility are expected to last through the end of next year.
Along with the new tunnel, the parking garage will be expanded to handle the extra volume expected at the new station. Water and sewer lines in the area also are in the process of being moved.
The Silver Line extension will add Metro service to Reston Town Center, Herndon, Innovation Center, Dulles International Airport, Loudoun Gateway and Ashburn. The Herndon station is scheduled to open in 2020.
