WASHINGTON 鈥� The home of FBI headquarters is in a big听Brutalist building at 10th听Street and Pennsylvania Avenue in Northwest, but not for much longer. And planners are already looking at what will replace the headquarters when it moves.
The General Services Administration is considering where to build a new FBI headquarters and who will develop that property. The听developer who lands that contract also will get the Pennsylvania Avenue NW property.
鈥淧eople say there is a very large federal office presence which is busy during the day but not busy during other hours and on the weekends, and I think everyone is hopeful that this will change with the redevelopment,鈥� National Capital Planning Commission Senior Urban Planner Diane Sullivan told 小萝莉影视.
The property is currently only planned to be some sort of high-density, mixed-use development, joining neighbors such as the Trump Hotel being developed at the U.S. Postal Pavilion.
鈥淚 do think that everyone is on board with the notion that there is some stuff that we can fix on the avenue,鈥� Sullivan said.听 鈥淚t can be improved to become America鈥檚 Main Street again.鈥�
The avenue connects the White House to the U.S. Capitol Building and has generally been home to government buildings and facilities.
The planning commission听is considering factors such as听setbacks, building heights, even whether D Street NW should return to its full length, after having been听truncated by the J. Edgar Hoover Building.
The public can by May 13.
