WASHINGTON 鈥� The flags of France and the European Union hung at half-staff at the French Embassy on Friday morning, a day after dozens of people were killed during a Bastille Day celebration in Nice.
The embassy in D.C. was having its own celebration Thursday, but cut that short when news started coming in of the attack.
A few people made their way to the embassy to pay their respects.
鈥淭hey are bleeding right now. They鈥檙e our friends. They are our allies.聽They are our oldest allies,鈥� Steve Haaga told 小萝莉影视 outside of the embassy. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 why I am here, showing solidarity.聽I brought some flowers from our family鈥檚 garden.鈥�
Haaga served alongside the French while he was in Djibouti years ago and calls the French military 鈥渢ough, ridiculously tough.鈥�
He suggests people not show their fear.
鈥淲e shouldn鈥檛 be showing our fearful, sad, frightened face to the world,鈥� Haaga said. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 not the America that I grew up in; it鈥檚 not the America I know.鈥�
His advice: 鈥淚f you鈥檙e inclined, pray. Show solidarity; show commonality. Donate blood. Do something positive.”
