A somber mood at French Embassy after Nice attack

WASHINGTON 鈥 The flags of France and the European Union hung at half-staff at the French Embassy on Friday morning, a day after dozens of people were killed during a Bastille Day celebration in Nice.

The embassy in D.C. was having its own celebration Thursday, but cut that short when news started coming in of the attack.

A few people made their way to the embassy to pay their respects.

鈥淭hey are bleeding right now. They鈥檙e our friends. They are our allies.聽They are our oldest allies,鈥 Steve Haaga told 小萝莉影视 outside of the embassy. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 why I am here, showing solidarity.聽I brought some flowers from our family鈥檚 garden.鈥

Haaga served alongside the French while he was in Djibouti years ago and calls the French military 鈥渢ough, ridiculously tough.鈥

He suggests people not show their fear.

鈥淲e shouldn鈥檛 be showing our fearful, sad, frightened face to the world,鈥 Haaga said. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 not the America that I grew up in; it鈥檚 not the America I know.鈥

His advice: 鈥淚f you鈥檙e inclined, pray. Show solidarity; show commonality. Donate blood. Do something positive.”
