Still on the mend, Bei Bei the giant panda is growing up

WASHINGTON – The National Zoo’s giant panda cub continues to do well in his recovery from surgery, according to the National Zoo.

Bei Bei, 1, underwent surgery in November month to remove a mass of bamboo that had created an intestinal blockage.

Despite having surgery and being put on a bamboo-free diet, the cub continues to grow and has passed the 100-pound mark, according to a post on the Zoo鈥檚 website Friday.

The Zoo says the panda鈥檚 diet is slowly returning to normal, although he still is not allowed to eat bamboo.

Bei Bei鈥檚 mother, Mei Xiang, is being fed bamboo outside several times a day while Bei Bei eats and rests indoors.
