Dirt bike rider dead following collision with DC police car

WASHINGTON — A man is dead after his dirt bike collided with a police cruiser Friday afternoon in Northeast D.C.

The accident occurred at 1:21 p.m. at the intersection of Fitch Place and Division Avenue.

Rachel Reid, a D.C. police spokeswoman, said there was no evidence to believe that officers were involved in a pursuit.

The use of dirt bikes and ATVs on area roads is illegal. Area authorities have struggled to stop gangs of dirt bike and ATV riders who ignore traffic laws.
