A bicyclist is dead after a multi-vehicle crash in Northwest D.C. Friday night.
It happened around 7:30 p.m. on Massachusetts Avenue near 2nd Street NW.
According to D.C. police, a man was riding a bike when he was hit by a car. The bicyclist was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
Three people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, D.C. Fire and EMS said. All were passengers in the cars involved in the crash. No pedestrians were hurt.
, spread out over a half a block between New Jersey Avenue and 2nd Street NW. There were three cars, an SUV, a van and a Capital Bikeshare bicycle involved.
“Near the damaged car parts [laid] the damaged Capital Bikeshare bicycle on its side, on the pavement; a helmet about 10 feet away,” 小萝莉影视 Traffic Reporter Dave Dildine said, describing the scene. “A van, head-on into a traffic signal [with] several other damaged vehicles.”
The debris field from the collisions covered about 200 feet of Massachusetts Avenue.
All lanes near 3rd Street and Massachusetts Avenue were blocked as police investigated the accident. The ramp from the 3rd Street Tunnel to enter Massachusetts Avenue was also closed off to traffic.
After the scene was investigated and cleaned up, all lanes of traffic reopened at around 1:30 a.m.
