The Washington Capitals raised the Stanley Cup for the first time in franchise history after a 4-3 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 5. Fans took to the streets in celebration — see some highlights.

WASHINGTON 鈥斅燜ans went wild as the Washington Capitals made history and captured the Stanley Cup for the first time ever.

Inside Capital One Area, they screamed. They waved rally towels. They hugged strangers.

Inside the arena, fans sang “We Are the Champions.”

Some of those folks stayed out all night on the District’s streets.

Fans are not hesitating to scoop up Stanley Cup gear early Friday.

NBC Washington’s Jackie Bensen took to the energetic D.C. streets following Game 5.

The Capitals are scheduled to arrive at Dulles International Airport Friday afternoon.

Deputy Mayor for Public Safety and Justice Kevin Donahue already has an excused late slip written up for the fans who stayed up all night celebrating the big win and who may be a bit late to work Friday morning.
