WASHINGTON 鈥� Charges have been dropped against two University of Maryland football players who were accused of firing BB guns at other聽students in November.
Lorenzo Harrison III of Clinton and Darryl 鈥淒J鈥� Turner II of Glenarden faced second-degree assault and reckless endangerment charges, along with separate charges for violating the schools鈥� code of conduct after three reports of students hit by what were believed to be pellets while on campus. Police said they believed the freshman football players used airsoft guns to shoot at students.
John Erzen, a spokesperson for the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Office, confirmed Wednesday that the charges against the students were dropped.
鈥淎fter reviewing the case, our office determined there was insufficient evidence to move forward, so the charges against both were dropped,鈥� Erzen said in an email.
The charges led to their suspensions from the team, too. Harrison was a starting running back on course to break a freshman rushing record, and Turner a wide receiver for the Terps.
Maryland athletics reinstated the Dematha High School grads in December after a separate review.
