Concern grows over high-voltage power lines in Prince William County

WASHINGTON 鈥 Some Prince William County residents are upset that high-voltage power lines needed for a new data center could impact their neighborhoods and historic land. They are holding a town hall meeting Monday night to voice their concerns.

Neither Dominion Virginia Power or the county will say who聽will use the data center but some elected officials, like Virginia Delegate Bob Marshall, think it will be Amazon. He sent a letter to Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos protesting the power lines because they could .

Dominion Virginia Power, tasked with addressing the increasing energy demand, says it’s聽reviewing several options for the power lines, including a hybrid overhead and underground route. Spokesman Chuck Penn says an聽application with the state will likely be filed in the spring.

鈥淭he Virginia State Corporation Commission is the overseer of our industry, of our company. Ultimately they will make the decision as to what the final route will be. We want to make sure we get residents鈥 and stakeholders鈥 input and use that to make determinations about what goes into the application itself.鈥

Penn says since their goal is to be transparent with the public,聽 feedback is critical.

The town hall meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Battlefield High School.
