WASHINGTON 鈥斅燗 strong, cold front moving through the area, is creating some windy weather for the D.C. area. NBC 4 meteorologist Steve Prinzivalli said the storm could kick up .

鈥淲e could even see some gusts of 50 to 55 miles an hour and that can down trees and power lines, and really cause some problem,鈥 Prinzivalli said.

On Saturday, there were scattered power outages reported throughout the region.

In Frederick County, Potomac Edison reported that some 2,000 customers lost聽power. The outages are due to strong winds, which have knocked trees into power lines in some ares of the county. Crews are repairing the outages but there is no clear timetable for when the power will be restored.

And in Montgomery County, some 700 people聽lost power.

Charging smartphones and keeping a few extra batteries around for flash lights are good ideas. Homeowners should know how to report an outage to their power company:

  • Pepco: 877-737-2662
  • Dominion: 866-366-4357
  • BGE: 877-778-2222
  • Potomac Edison: 888-544-4877
  • NOVEC: 888-335-0500
  • SMECO: 877-747-6326
  • Rappahannock: 800-552-3904

Sunday is a popular day for drivers to make their Thanksgiving week trips out of town, and Prinzivalli said the increased volume and not-so-great weather will mean drivers need to pack some patience, too.

Prinzivalli said the winds will also make driving a challenge at times, especially for individuals driving in high profile vehicles. Some drivers have also reported reduced visibility at times due to fallen leaves being whipped by the wind.
