WEDNESDAY EVENING: Gradual clearing
Temperatures: 60s
Winds: Southwest 5-10 mph
Plan for a quiet evening as the front slips to the south. Skies turn mainly clear. Temperatures fall back through the 60s into the 50s.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Mainly clear
Lows: 50s
Winds: Light
It stays calm and mainly clear overnight with no weather concerns. Temperatures drop into the low to mid 50s by daybreak, which is close to seasonal norms. Light winds continue, and visibility remains good with dry conditions in place.
THURSDAY: Sunny to partly cloudy
Highs: 80-85
Winds: Northwest 5-10 mph
Thursday looks like the pick of the week across the D.C. region. Behind today鈥檚 front, drier air settles in with plenty of sunshine from start to finish. The boundary stalls just to the south, so while a stray shower can鈥檛 be completely ruled out well to the west toward the Shenandoah Valley, most of the metro stays dry all day. Temperatures respond nicely, climbing to the lower and middle 80s with low humidity, making for a very comfortable, although warm, quiet spring day.
FRIDAY: Partly cloudy with isolated afternoon thunderstorms
Highs: 75-84
Winds: Northeast to Southeast 5-10 mph
Friday starts off on a similar note with a mix of sun and clouds and mild conditions in place. As the stalled weather maker begins to lift back north as a warm front, moisture increases through the afternoon, and the atmosphere may become a bit more unsettled. Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms could develop after 2 p.m., but it does not look like much at this point, with plenty of dry hours, especially early in the day. Highs reach the 80s for most, and while coverage of rain is in the 40 percent range, any storm that does develop could bring brief downpours and gusty winds.
SATURDAY: Cloudy with areas of rain
Highs: 62-67
Winds: East 10-15 mph with gusts to 20 mph
A more active pattern takes over as a stronger system moves in, bringing widespread showers through the day. Rain chances are high, and periods of steady rain are likely, especially during the afternoon and evening. Temperatures are much cooler, struggling to reach the low to mid 60s, with a damp and raw feel setting in. Winds late afternoon may gust to around 20 mph.
SUNDAY: Lingering showers end
Highs: Lower 60s
Winds: Northeast 5-10 mph
Showers taper off through the morning, with the best chance early and gradual improvement by the afternoon. Skies remain mostly cloudy, but a few breaks are possible later on. Temperatures recover slightly into the lower 60s, a bit below the average high of 70 degrees this time of year.
