On Wednesday, Carolina Molina returned to Bailey鈥檚 Crossroads in Northern Virginia, days after an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent pointed a gun at her and a video of the confrontation went viral on social media.
鈥淭his is like a flashback of what occurred,鈥� Molina said. 鈥淚 can鈥檛 believe I鈥檓 standing here again.鈥�
The press conference, hosted by Northern Virginia immigrant-rights organization La ColectiVA, comes just two days after Molina had the confrontation with ICE.
Molina, who is a licensed professional counselor, said she was in the area dropping off business cards to immigration offices because she provides psychological immigration evaluations for their clients.
In between offices, she saw the ICE officers making arrests and admitted that she is a 鈥渓oudmouth鈥� who has a 鈥減otty mouth.鈥�
鈥淚 do feel as an American citizen, I have a right to my First Amendment,鈥� Molina said. 鈥淎s you can , I passed by one of them and called him a ho.鈥�
According to Molina, when she drove by the agents, one of them replied, 鈥淔 you,鈥� to which she replied, 鈥淔 you all,鈥� and kept on driving.
Shortly after, Molina said she noticed a lot of unmarked cars and decided to go on her 鈥渕erry way,鈥� but that didn鈥檛 happen.
鈥淚 got blocked in by one of the ICE agents, and he got out with a gun,鈥� Molina said. 鈥淚’m like, ‘Yo, this guy’s really pointing a gun at my head,’ like that’s insane.鈥�
In the video, the agent is shown with his gun pointed at Molina, shouting, 鈥淎re you following us? Are you following us? This is your warning. You almost ran us over.鈥�
Molina said the agent’s comments made her with her mobile phone.
鈥淚 think my life was in danger at that point,鈥� Molina said. 鈥淚t wasn’t until after I was like, this was a whole Renee Goode situation again.鈥�
Molina said she is looking at what legal or other options may be available to her. She added the encounter should be investigated and any body-camera footage made public.
She also has additional footage of the incident beyond the two-minute dashcam video that has gone viral on social media.
Molina said she is keeping the footage to herself for now because she wants to speak with an attorney and show that it was not an 鈥渋nvalid interaction.鈥�
Born and raised in Northern Virginia, Molina said she is a first-generation American and chose to speak out about the interaction because some people fear repercussions.
鈥淚 think people always fear repercussions, and so I feel like people tend to sweep things under the rug, especially immigrants,鈥� Molina said.
鈥淭hey get their rights violated time and time again, and they feel like they don’t have a voice or people to speak out for them.鈥�
Virginia Rep. Don Beyer said that his office has been in contact with Molina.
Beyer, who represents Virginia鈥檚 8th Congressional District, said he was relieved she was safe and called the incident an example of 鈥渉abitual dishonesty and dangerous and unjustified escalation鈥� by ICE agents.
Beyer said he plans to demand answers and consequences, adding that 鈥渢his kind of misconduct and threat of force against members of our communities cannot be tolerated.鈥�
In a statement to 小萝莉影视, the Department of Homeland Security disputed Molina鈥檚 account of the confrontation. According to the agency, as agents conducted targeted immigration enforcement in Falls Church, Molina, whom they call “an anti-ICE agitator,” drove circles around them and attempted to hurt the officers with her vehicle, “all in an attempt to help illegal aliens get away.”
鈥淔earing for their safety, ICE officers conducted a vehicle stop of the driver,” the statement said. “Necessary background information of the driver was taken and she could face criminal prosecution as a result of her actions.”
