WASHINGTON – Soon after the D.C. Council adopted a symbolic resolution calling on the Redskins to change the team name, a very different message emerged across the Potomac River in Loudoun County, Va.
The Board of Supervisors unanimously adopted a resolution supporting the freedom of Redskins management to keep the name the way it is.
Supervisor Ralph Buona, R-Ashburn, said the controversy is “political correctness run amok,” the reports.
“Why is it the D.C.’s city council business?” Buona said, noting the team plays in Maryland and has its headquarters in Loudoun County.
Supervisor Suzanne Volpe, R-Algonkian, said, “I don’t need some House of Representatives non-voting member in D.C. trying to dictate to a privately owned business headquartered in our county what their name should be.”
