Champions League winner Paris Saint-Germain signs France winger Maghnes Akliouche from Monaco

PARIS (AP) 鈥 Champions League winner Paris Saint-Germain strengthened its attack by signing from Monaco on a five-year deal on Thursday.

PSG announced the signing in a statement without giving financial details. French sports daily L’Equipe said PSG paid 50 million euros ($58 million) for the the 24-year-old player.

Akliouche was one of Ligue 1’s best players last season and in both legs of their Champions League playoff, which PSG won 5-4.

The left-footed Akliouche stood out against PSG with his runs from deep and is particularly dangerous breaking down either flank. He came on for France as a substitute against Iraq at the recent World Cup.

鈥淪igning for Paris Saint-Germain is an immense source of pride,” he said. 鈥淗aving grown up in the Paris region, joining such a prestigious club means so much to me and my family.鈥

Akliouche’s arrival could pave the way for France winger Bradley Barcola to join Premier League club Liverpool, which has reportedly made signing him a priority.

CHICAGO (AP) 鈥 The Chicago White Sox placed reliever Hu谩scar Brazob谩n on the 15-day injured list Tuesday and recalled right-hander Jonathan Cannon from Triple-A Charlotte. Chicago also put outfielder Andrew Benintendi on the bereavement/family medical emergency list before its game against the Texas Rangers. Infielder/outfielder Rikuu Nishida was recalled from Charlotte. Brazob谩n, 36, has a left lat strain. The right-hander pitched one inning during Monday's 11-2 loss to Texas, allowing one run and one hit. Brazob谩n was acquired in a trade with the New York Mets on Aug. 3. He has a 6.30 ERA in 10 appearances with Chicago.
